LETTER TO NEXT YEAR PHOTO STUDENTS

This class is one of my favorite classes because it is fun using your creativity to create photos or other things like collages. The things you should know when you go into this class is that you have to pay attention and not interrupt Mrs. Cauchon while she is talking, because she will tell you to be quiet, and it’s just disrespectful to interrupt. She gives us about 3 assignments every week, and that is enough time to complete them trust me, and if the assignment needs more time to finish, she’ll extend it. She also accepts late work which is very helpful if you are a bit behind from being absent a lot or any other reason. She is really nice and doesn’t spend all class time talking so we don’t feel bored to be there.

The assignments are all fun to do and will all teach you how to photograph in a new and interesting way. My favorite type of assignments we do is when we focus on taking photos in different lightings and angles, and the collages. These interest me because I get to use my humor and creativity in the collages, and the lighting and angles are just fun to do. My least favorites are the read and writes, where we have to read a site that she gives us and write facts about it, but it helps us learn what we are doing so I guess it’s fine.

Overall, you will have fun in this class, and even if you don’t like photography or taking this class just because, you will still like it. This class doesn’t feel like a strict classroom, and you have total freedom, as long as you respect and not make a mess.

Advertising Photography

this advertisement caught my attention because the literal spotlight is focusing on the perfume and the color of the surface matches, and I liked the shadow and glass reflection.

This advertisement caught my attention because it shows the motion of the soda being poured into the glass and i like the lighting.

MULTIPLE EXPOSURE WITH FLASH AND SLOW SHUTTER SPEED

I set the camera to 30 seconds at F/8 or 11 and 200 ISO. I made sure to be on Manual metering and MF. I went to a the dark room and I had someone hold the flash to turn it on and off. I pressed the camera butting to take the picture and stood in front of the camera. I moved places every time they flashed the light to have 3 of myself.

File Formats

JPEG: JPEGs are compressed at the moment of capture; therefore, when you take a JPEG, you instantly lose some image detail, but its file size is small, so we can store thousands of JPEGs in a single memory card

HEIF: HEIF image files are smaller than JPEGs yet offer similar or even increased quality, but they cannot  be easily displayed by internet browsers, which makes them a poor option for image sharing on social media and portfolio websites

TIFF: TIFF files are usually uncompressed, so they’re extremely high quality and offer the opportunity for extensive post-processing, more storage is needed and loads for a longer time since it has a much bigger file size

RAW: They take up a lot of space and time loading but the image quality is outstanding, and it requires plenty of memory cards

DNG: It adds another step to the post processing workflow which takes extra time, its possibly the safer long-term option because it guards against future incompatibilities, but if your camera cannot create DNGs automatically, it takes extra time to convert camera RAW files to DNGs

PNG: high quality ones don’t require a lot of storage space and they allow for partial and total transparency, but the file size is larger

GIF: they are perfect for internet use, but they only contain a maximum of 256 colors, so they are not great for pictures

BMP: It produces a high-quality file that is great for printing but not ideal for sharing photos on the web, and the large file size requires a lot of storage

PSD: it is used by Adobe Photoshop to save data, and it allows you to store edits using individual layers rather than on the image itself
